Moreland Anderson

Coach Anderson is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Warner Pacific track and field program overseeing the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and multi-event athletes.
 
In his previous four seasons at WPU, Anderson has guided Warner athletes to 11 indoor and 12 outdoor top-10 marks including the school record holder Ben Nelson in the indoor triple jump; and the 2019 Cascade Conference Champion and All-American Brittany Coleman in the outdoor triple jump. While taking first-place at the CCC Championships, Brittany also set the conference meet record with a jump of 11.97m. She then went on to finish 4th at the NAIA Outdoor Championships increasing her PR to 12.08m. She is currently #2 on the Knights all-time marks for the women’s triple jump for both indoor and outdoor, and #7 in the outdoor 200m. Coach Anderson has also guided Dominique McGill to the #3 all-time 400m time (outdoor) and the #3 all-time mark in the long jump (also outdoor).
 
Prior to arriving at the Warner Pacific campus, Anderson coached for 23 years at Westside Christian High School in Tigard, Oregon, 17 of those years as the head coach. While at Westside, he was the 2009 Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) Coach of the Year for 3A Boys Track and Field. That same year, his boys’ team were the State Champions while his women finished 3rd. During his 17 year tenure as head coach, he was named Coach of the Year for the West Valley League (WVL) seven times (2000, 2002, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014) while guiding his athletes to sixteen district team titles and 105 individual and relay titles. At the state champion meet his athletes have garnered 18 first place finishes in the sprints (200m & 400m), hurdles (100mH & 300mH), jumps (TJ), and middle distance (800m) plus both relays (4x100m & 4x400m). His 4x100m relays have won State 3 times while setting the meet record in 2008. The 4x400m relay have been state champions 5 times and in 2012 broke the meet record that had lasted 28 years. In 2010 he was recognized as the 3A Coach of the Year by Who’s Who in Oregon Track and Field.
 
While coaching at the high school level, Coach Anderson would guide many of his athletes in the USATF summer program (either Youth Athletics or Junior Olympics). From 2005 to 2014 his athletes were crowned regional champion four times: once in the triple jump and three times in the heptathlon; one national champion (heptathlon); a regional runner-up (heptathlon) and a national qualifier in the 800m.
 
Anderson is a USATF Level II Certified Coach and also holds USTFCCCA Technical certification
 
Prior to entering coaching, Anderson enjoyed a 32-year career as an engineer. Originally from Washougal, Washington, he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington after a year at Clark College where he competed in track and field.
 
He and his wife, Nancy, have two adult sons and two grandchildren. They have resided in Portland, Oregon, the last 48 years.
