Hard-Luck Knights Drop Close Match to RMC

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific women's soccer dropped their second home game by one goal in as many days, this time a 2-1 loss to Rocky Mountain on senior night.

The predicted stormy weather did not materialize, but the game was played on a wet turf surface that made for disjointed action on the pitch. The first half was especially rough on both teams as passes went astray and scoring opportunities were few and far between.

Rocky Mountain took hold of the contest after halftime, finding room for 12 shots. Lauryn Gamache placed a shot past WPC goalkeeper Cathy Lara in the 55th minute, and Mhari Smith looped a shot from distance in the 62nd minute.

The host Knights found something in the final 20 minutes of the game by switching formations and moving midfielder Staci Tatum further up the field. It paid off in the 87th minute. Sitera Allison and Kaylee Garvey had a nice combination pass at the top of the 18, then Garvey found Ashley Giesbers making a run to the near post. Giesbers headed home her 11 goal of the season to make the score 2-1 in favor of the visiting Bears.

WP was unable to find another goal however, as Rocky ran out the clock.

Seniors Cathy Lara, Carley Turner, Susana Escobedo, Kaylee Garvey, Lynzee Felder, Alexa Lorentzen, Dominque Niedziela, and Larissa Byrgazova were honored for the their contributions to the Knight program before the game.
