Loss, Tie For Knight Women on Road Trip

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Warner Pacific women's soccer team came home from their trip up I-5 with a loss and tie to open CCC play.

Northwest 3, Warner Pacific 0

Northwest University scored three second half goals for a 3-0 shutout victory over Warner Pacific in the teams' Cascade Conference Opener. The Eagles scored a goal in the 79th and 80th minute and one in the 86th to pull out the victory.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half as the defenses held strong with 17 total shots taken, 11 for Northwest U and 6 for Warner Pacific. Cathy Lara made five saves in goal for WPC in the half stopping the Eagles' shots. NU's Lauren Hellum had a save in each period to earn the shutout, her fourth of the season.

Sophomore Whitney Weaver started the NU scoring string at 78:32 taking Brianna Sillivan's pass and scored from 10 yards out on the right side. Less than a minute later, Jalisa Santiago put NU up 2-0 with her shot off a rebound from 6 yards out on the right side.

Hannah Nicholson put the game away at the 85:56 mark when she took Tiffany Taylor's shot off the sidebar and finished from the left, 4 yards away.
Northwest U held the edge in corner kicks with 7 and the Eagles outshot Warner Pacific 24-10.

Cathy Lara totaled 8 saves for Warner Pacific.

Warner Pacific 0, Evergreen 0 (2OT)

Both teams had plenty of attempts at goal but in the end The Evergreen State College and Warner Pacific ended up in a 0-0 double overtime draw Saturday afternoon in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer match played at Geoduck Pitch.

The host Geoducks took a total of 20 shots and put five of them on target, while Warner Pacific ended up with 16 total shots, also with five on frame. Evergreen keeper Kayla Baskett finished with five saves in collecting her first shutout of the season, and she was particularly effective coming off her line and snuffing out several Warner Pacific attacks via long balls over the back line.

Like Baskett, Knights goalie Cathy Lara had five saves. Corner kicks were nearly equal, the visitors owning a slight 5-4 advantage.

Evergreen had the run of play in the opening 45 minutes, finishing the half with seven shot to just two for the visitors. The second half featured lots of open play and plenty of counterattacking as Warner Pacific took 11 attempts compared to 10 for Evergreen. The Knights attempted four shots in the two overtimes compared to two for the Geoducks.
