NAMPA, Idaho - An early goal from Warner Pacific did not hold up, as Northwest Nazarene answered with four in a victory over the Knights this afternoon at Finkbeiner Park on the NNU campus.
While the Crusaders controlled play much of the afternoon, it was the Knights who stuck first when
Kayla Currin converted a header off a corner kick delivered by
Staci Tatum in the 17th minute.
Forced to re-organize, the NNU squad stepped up the pressure which resulted in a Rikki Myers goal in the 35th minute, as she picked off a defensive pass from the Knights and beat the goalkeeper for the equalizer.
The Crusaders took the lead in the 41st minute when Emily Wilkins scored the first of two goals with a rocket from just outside the 18-yard mark, giving Tennyson Young an assist.
NNU outshot WPC 9-2 in the first half and finished with a 15-4 edge in shots on goal.
Wilkins scored again in the 67th minute, taking the rebound assist from Maddy Midstokke into the back of the net, and the Crusaders finished off the scoring in the 70th minute when Myers added her second tally of the day with a shot to the upper left corner, courtesy of a corner kick assist from Anita Maryskova.
NNU's Chloe Sholtz made two saves in goal and WPC's
Zoey Dahme hustled for six.
The contest was an exhibition for NNU.
