PORTLAND, Ore. – A day after conceding eight goals, Warner Pacific College turned in a much better defensive effort in a 2-1 win over Pacific University at Damazo Field.
The host Knights scored both goals early, with
Alexis Smith lacing her first of the season into the net in the 8
th minute, and
Mackenzie Ancien adding her first of 2017 in the 11

The response from Pacific was not long in coming, as the Boxers cut the lead in half just five minutes later thanks to a goal from Emily Thompson.
The game settled into a defensive battle from that point, though there were a few more chances from both teams that went begging. Thompson clanged a would-be game tying shot off the crossbar in the 80
th minute, and
Staci Tatum's free kick effort smacked the post in the 89
th.
The stats indicate an evenly matched game, as WPC had the slight edge in total shots (15-13) and corner kicks (3-2).
