PORTLAND, Ore. – A day after conceding eight goals, Warner Pacific College turned in a much better defensive effort in a 2-1 win over Pacific University at Damazo Field.

The host Knights scored both goals early, with Alexis Smith lacing her first of the season into the net in the 8^th minute, and Mackenzie Ancien adding her first of 2017 in the 11^th  minute.
 
The response from Pacific was not long in coming, as the Boxers cut the lead in half just five minutes later thanks to a goal from Emily Thompson.
 
The game settled into a defensive battle from that point, though there were a few more chances from both teams that went begging. Thompson clanged a would-be game tying shot off the crossbar in the 80^th minute, and Staci Tatum's free kick effort smacked the post in the 89^th.
 
The stats indicate an evenly matched game, as WPC had the slight edge in total shots (15-13) and corner kicks (3-2).
