PORTLAND, Ore. – Goals came early and often for Mid-America Nazarene in a 7-1 win over Warner Pacific today at the Eastside Timbers Soccer Complex.
The Pioneers from Olathe, Kansas used the combination of Savannah Moxley (4 goals, 2 assists) and Maria Garcia (2 goals, 4 assists) to cut through the Knight defensive line.
MNU scored three goals inside 13 minutes of play to start the game. A tactical formation switch by Warner Pacific stopped the bleeding for a while, but the Pioneers tacked on a 4th goal before halftime. The host Knights made several forays into their offensive third and generated four corner kicks, but the MNU defense was up to the task.
Three more goals went into the net in quick succession for the Pioneers at the start of the second period, before the WPU defense finally solidified. The Knights managed to avoid the shutout by way of a well-taken free kick by
Joie Lopez from 22 yards out.
