Knights Matmen Open Season with Win at First-Ever "Grind for the Grail"

Salem, Ore. | The Warner Pacific Men's Wrestling team opened conference dual competition Thursday with a 29-24 win over the Warriors of Corban University in what is being dubbed the inaugural "Grind for the Grail."

Austin Wallace-Lister opened the action for the Knights at 133 pounds with a 23-7 win by technical fall in 4:41. 

After the Warriors answered with a win by fall at 141 pounds, the Knights rolled on to win the next three matches with a win by fall in 1:12 by Lucas Higginbotham at 149 pounds, a 10-6 decision by Zach Sias at 157 pounds and 9-5 decision by Colby Winnett at 165 pounds. Winnett's win was against No. 14 Cooper McCullough. 
 
After Kaleo Gambala accepted a forfeit at 125 pounds for the Knights, the Warriors picked up forfeits at 184 and 197 to put the team score at 24-23 in favor of Corban University with one match to go. 
 
Cortez Rodelo secured the win for his team with a fall in :11 to put the Knights up 29-24.
 
Thursday's dual meet was significant as it was the first in Corban University's program history. 
 
The Knights will be back in action Saturday as the team travels to Clackamas Community College for the Clackamas Open Tournament.
