Knights Reveal New Athletic Branding

PORTLAND, Ore. - 20 years ago Warner Pacific University relaunched intercollegiate athletics. Celebrating this momentous occasion, WPU has refreshed the Knights' visual identity.

"We've been having conversations as a community about what it means to be a Knight in our context of a Christ-centered institution in the city of Portland," said athletic director Mike Wilson. "These discussions started several years ago when the decision was made to phase out the sword wielding imagery. This new branding and logo reveal is a natural result of the efforts of many stakeholders across campus, coinciding with the 20 year anniversary of the relaunch of intercollegiate athletics at Warner Pacific."

The new logo and branding will be implemented over several years, as uniforms are updated for each sport in their normal replacement cycle. The first teams to feature the new crest will be the men's and women's soccer programs. Placement and updates of the branding inside C.C. Perry Gym will take place as budget allows.

Knight logo history:

4011

With athletics reborn at WP in 1999, a logo was designed in house (with no budget). Rumors concerning the process included taking inspiration from the LA Lakers script logo.

A new logo was launched in 2006 in collaboration with WP's uniform supplier at the time - Lids Sports.

The decision was made in 2013 to retire the sword wielding image, elevate a secondary shield logo to the primary logo, and add the arched Warner Pacific font.
