Stanfield’s Rafael Orozco signs with WPU Cross Country/Track and Field for Fall 2020

Stanfield High School's Rafael Orozco has signed with Warner Pacific University cross country/track and field to compete beginning next Fall. Orozco, a senior distance runner, will compete in both cross country and track & field for Warner Pacific. He has a 5000m cross country personal best of 17:49 and also competed in a number of middle and long distance events in track and field at Stanfield High School. Although he will miss his senior track season with the cancellation of spring sports, he is excited to focus on preparation for the Fall and his college running career.

"I was really looking forward to competing in my senior year of track because I was really prepared and ready to run some nice PR's, but now I am just getting really focused on next Fall and running in college," said Orozco.

When asked why he chose Warner Pacific for college, he said, "I just really liked campus and all the people when I visited – I really felt at home and thought I would fit in well and enjoy school and running here."

Orozco will be a true freshman majoring in nursing and should be one of a nice group of middle and long distance runners that Coach Dalzell is bringing in to re-build the men's cross country team to a highly competitive level.

"We are very excited to add Rafael to our incoming class of runners! He is a very good student and seems to have a great attitude about school, training, and life in general. He is extremely positive and had a great presence with our other athletes when he came to visit. He is a great addition to our program!" said Head Coach Randy Dalzell
