Barlow High School’s Cade Kooch Signs with Warner Pacific Track and Field/Cross Country

Portland, Ore. | Barlow High School senior standout Cade Kooch has signed with Warner Pacific University to run both cross country and track next Fall.  Kooch was the Bruin's top cross country runner the last two seasons winning team MVP honors as well as the most inspirational award his senior year. Kooch has a 5K cross country best of 16:33 and was one of the top runners in the very deep Mt. Hood Conference, but sustained an injury just before the conference meet, keeping him out of the state meet his senior year. He was looking forward to a great senior track season to show his competitive level and great preparation he did after recovering from his injury, but now he simply has to focus on graduating and preparing to run in college.

Kooch, who will be a double major in exercise science and psychology, had this to say about missing his senior track season. "I was really looking forward to track season to show that I was back and ready to race again. It's a real bummer for everyone to have to sit out, but now it's time to persevere through these hard times and come out stronger than ever for next Fall."

When asked why he chose Warner Pacific University he responded, "I chose Warner Pacific because it is close to home, they have a great coaching staff, and they are building up a great running program that I wanted to be a part of."

Warner Pacific Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Randy Dalzell was equally optimistic about Kooch and his abilities to contribute to the team. "Cade is a great young man from a local high school program that consistently develops talent. He is a very talented runner and an equally good student with great desire, focus, and team spirit.  You can tell he wants to be good as an individual, but he also wants to be a leader in building a great team and tradition, which is exactly what we are looking for. He is a perfect fit for our program and we couldn't be happier to have him at Warner Pacific!"
