Forest Grove, Ore. | In her first game as a member of the Warner Pacific University Women's Soccer team, transfer junior
Maddie Goss scored the Knight's lone goal of the evening in a 1-3 loss at NCAA DIII Pacific University.
In a game that featured just 17 total shots by both teams (only 10 of which were on goal), opportunities came far and few between the 90 minutes played Wednesday night at Hanson Stadium.
The first of those opportunities came early in the first half when Pacific's Tessa Bretschieder found the top right corner of the Knights' net on a crossing route from midfielder Ivette Garcia-Gomez about 18 yards out, and just 17 minutes into this match.
About double that time later, Goss had her lone opportunity of the game. Coming off a rebound shot in the 33
rd minute from outside the penalty box on a free kick, Maddie launched herself headfirst to connect and score from point blank range. On what looked like was about to be a head-to-head collision with Boxers' goalkeeper Peyton Seals, Goss was just a little quicker than her adversary to the ball, avoiding the penalty and ultimately tying this game at 1-1.
Later in the second half, Boxers' forward Lydia King found the back of the net on a rebound shot that she followed from outside the box, and just sneaked past the diving arms of Knights' goalkeeper
Isabell Bauer, which turned out to be the game-winning goal.
In desperation time, the Knights were unable to keep Pacific at bay, as the Boxers' Bretschieder tallied her second goal of the game with just seven minutes left, and putting this game just out of reach for Warner Pacific.
The Warner Pacific Women's Soccer team finishes off the week with a friendly scrimmage on Friday against Clark College, followed by an exhibition game in McMinnville, Ore. against Linfield University later next week before they fly south for a quick California road trip that features stops in Rocklin & Oakland against hosts William Jessup University & Mills College, respectively.
