PORTLAND, Ore.| In their final game of non-conference play, Warner Pacific Women's soccer defeated San Diego Christian College 3-2 in a game that was competitive until the final buzzer.
The Knights started strong with
Jackie Castellanos scoring a goal after a great pass from
Sophie Painter. After a spell of strong defense from the Knights, something that has been common to see this season, Senior Captain
Kaitlin Hirasa put the Knights up 2 with an excellent finish from inside the box.
Brin Wolvert made sure the lead continued to grow, scoring in commanding fashion to make the game 3-0 in favor of the Knights.
The game was not over yet, as San Diego got a goal back in the 65
th minute. San Diego was able to strike again in the 78
th minute after they were awarded a penalty kick. Warner Pacific dug deep, seeing players that are usually higher up the field running back, making tackles, and clearing balls. Even with San Diego throwing everything forward, the Knights held strong and won the game 3-2.
When asked about how preseason went and looking forward to Conference play, Coach
Justan Wolvert had this to say:
"At the end of the preseason, after 6 games, it's fantastic to be an above .500 team, having a record of 3-2-1 and roll in to start Conference play and a team that's above .500 is a good place to be in"
The Lady Knights are in action to open conference play away at College of Idaho on Friday, September 16th at 4 p.m.
