The Knights Win Their First Set of the Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 25th, 2023

Atherton, CA | The Warner Pacific Women's Volleyball team played their final game of the Menlo College Tournament this morning at 9am against Simpson University.

The Knights lost to Simpson University three sets to one by scores of 25-20 (SU), 25-21 (WPU), 25-10 (SU), and 25-10 (SU). They played really well in the first two sets keeping the first set really close and winning the second set for the team's first set win of the season.

The first set was very back and forth and was a set of runs by both teams with nobody really breaking out to a big lead. The biggest lead of the game for both teams was the five-point separation at the end of the match. Maryann Tulele had a couple kills in the set as well as a service ace.

The second set was a great one for the Knights, winning their first set of the season 25-21. The Knights overcame a 5-1 deficit and took a 17-13 lead. From there both teams traded points which kept the score on the side of the good guys and even when Simpson came back to within one at 17-16, the Knights never relinquished the lead and took the set. Edita Ljuca scored the first point of the set for the Knights on a kill on the set by Autumn Gaboury-Parker. This was just the first of five kills that Ljuca had in the set.

After the Knights tied the match at one set apiece, the Knights had a couple of tough sets to end the match losing 25-10 in each set.

Words From Coach
Head Coach, Kim Lissinna is proud of her girls for the improvement they continue to make. "I think today we took a step in the right direction as a program," Lissinna said. "This group really embraced the idea of stepping up and playing for each other through trials. Beyond excited to see what happens when we get everyone back on the floor."
