The Knights Lose to the Saints

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 22nd, 2023

HELENA, MT. | The Knights started their longest road trip of the year with an unfortunate result losing 2-0 against the Fighting Saints of Carroll College at a rainy Nelson Stadium.

The Knights fell today to 3-4-1 on the young season after a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Saints. The Knights were only able to shoot 4 total shots and none of those were on goal. The Saints shot 30 total shots and had 12 shots on goal making Knights goalkeeper, Kate Pomerinke, a very busy person. Even with all the shots taken on goal, Pomerinke was very impressive behind goal saving 10 shots.

The Knights kept the score knotted up at zero all the way up until the 68th minute when a goal was scored by Emily Funseth of the Saints. The Knights late in the game down by one pushed their numbers up to try to force a goal to tie up the game but unfortunately, the Saints capitalized and scored a goal in the 88th minute. The goal was scored by Molly Molvig and was assisted by Delaney Moczan.

Even amidst the loss, head coach Justan Wolvert, was proud of his team. "Extremely proud of the effort today," Wolvert said. "This game can be cruel at times and we deserved better than we got. We played a great game and were unlucky to concede a second goal at the end as we pushed numbers forward trying to equalize. I'm very encouraged with the play on the field and am looking forward to the chance to rebound tomorrow."

Next Up
The Knights will enjoy a night of sleep in Great Falls, Montana and will take on the University of Providence Argos tomorrow at 2:30pm.
