Forest Grove, Ore.| The Knights played out in the country against NCAA DIII Pacific University on a very hot day and worked out a 1-1 draw against the Boxers.
The Knights started a little slow today with the heat but it didn't take them long to adjust. Even with the heat, the Knights fought hard to put up a good result and they did just that. They broke the ice scoring the first goal of the game in the 34
th minute on a shot taken by
Kiya Gramps for her second goal of the season. Gramps' goal was assisted by
Yvette Abundiz which was her first as a Knight. The Knights then fought to hold their lead. They did a great job preserving the lead but unfortunately, they weren't able to add to their lead which proved costly when Pacific scored in the 83
rd minute knotting the score up at one.
Heady Coach, Justan Wolvert, while disappointed in losing the lead very late, is very happy with the teams resolve and effort. "I was once again pleased with our defensive performance," Head Coach, Justan Wolvert said. "It's always difficult to lose a lead that late in the game but we were organized throughout and showed good patience in our defensive third. Although we had hoped for more today, it's difficult to be disappointed when assessing our first four games. We've made improvements and have shown growth one game to the next. I'm looking forward to continuing that trend as we look forward to PLU next weekend."
The Knights were out-shot by the Boxers11-3. Both teams had just one shot on goal and both of those shots found the back of the net.
Next Up
The Knights with tonight's result, are now 2-1-1 and marks the first time since 2008 that the program is above .500 after four games. The improvements that this program is making is very impressive and shouldn't be overlooked. The Knights will look to improve on that statistic next Sunday at Pacific Lutheran University up in Tacoma, Washington at 1pm.
