Newberg, Ore.| Warner Pacific Women's Basketball took on George Fox University this evening and fell by a final score of 67-55 at Miller Gym in the Wheeler Sports Center.
The Knights started the game tonight cold from the field but stayed without shouting distance due to great free throw shooting going 10-13 from the stripe in the first half. The Knights shot 37%. The Bruins on the other hand shot 50% from the field in the first half with 34 shots taken.
The Knights and Bruins in the third quarter played even with both teams not shooting it particularly well. In the fourth quarter though, the Knights really started to make a run starting the quarter down by 15 points and working the score down to a seven-point Bruins lead with about four minutes left in the contest. Unfortunately, though, it was too little too late and the Bruins were able to salt away the time on the clock and leave with a 12-point victory.
The Knights were led tonight by
Riley Layton who finished the contest with 22 points and nearly had a double-double with seven rebounds.
Skylar Groesbeck followed with 14 points and eight rebounds, nearly having a double-double of her own.
KJ Custer filled the stat sheet tonight with eight points, four rebounds, and a steal. Both Hanne Hopkins and Sophia Hardy led the way for the Bruins, scoring 18 points apiece.
"Time is tricky," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "For parts of the game tonight, we let time play us. Specifically in the second half, we dictated the time. This is a process that takes time with a new roster and team and if we can take our focus and demand time from the second half moving forward, good things will come."
