Portland, Ore.| The Knights Men's Golf Program has signed James Astin as the first recruit for the 2025-26 class.
"We are excited to have a player of James' caliber on our golf team," Head Coach, Gary Akiyama said. "He is not only a good golfer but a great person as well."
Astin is from Chubbuck, Idaho and attends Highland High School until completion this year. Astin played golf for three years at Highland and boasts a 4
th place finish in the district tournament and 20
th in the 6A State Tournament. Astin is coming to Warner Pacific as a true freshman.
James Astin has some pretty cool family ties to Warner Pacific University. His brother Isiah was an All-State basketball player at Columbia Christian for Bart Valentine. James' dad Sid was the assistant coach on that team. Isiah also played two season with Ben Gregg who is the son of WPU Athletic Director, Matt Gregg.
James' Grandmother has worked for Warner Pacific University since 2009. James' Grandfather was an assistant coach for the WPU Golf Program from 2009-2011 as well. James himself attended WPU's preschool program himself in 2010 so people could consider him as a returning student.
