Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific University Athletics Department is proud to announce that United Way of the Columbia-Willamette is donating to our incoming student-athletes.
"I cannot express my gratitude to CEO Kelly O'Lague for leading this donation to our incoming student athletes," Athletic Director
Matt Gregg said. "UWCW will help students realize their academic goals by relieving some of the stress from paying tuition. Some of our students work full time jobs, practice, and do a great job in the classroom. Hopefully this keeps them from needing to work so many hours and focus on their sport and their studies."
United Way of the Columbia-Willamette is giving five freshman a four year scholarship worth five thousand dollars a year. Every year, these five scholarships will be given out to another five freshman. On top of that scholarship, UWCW is also giving a one year five thousand dollar scholarship to the male and female Champion of Character winners each year. The Champion of Character Award is given out at the end of the school year so the scholarship will be implemented for the following year.
Student-athletes earn this scholarship by exemplifying the Five Pillars of the NAIA which are integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. The winners of these scholarships will be chosen by a committee which includes the Warner Pacific Athletic Director, Faculty Athletics Representative, and the Sports Information Director.
