Knights Fall Short in TIght Battle Against Northwest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 18, 2026

Portland, Ore. | The Warner Pacific University women's soccer team took on Northwest University Sunday morning in a tightly contested Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup. Despite answering an early deficit and generating consistent offensive pressure, the Knights fell to the Eagles, 2-1.

Northwest struck first in the 25th minute when Ella Baker converted a setup from Lily McMullen to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Warner Pacific responded just two minutes later, as Katya Tercek found the back of the net off an assist from Mira Thornton in the 27th minute to even the match at 1-1.

The Eagles reclaimed the lead in the 34th minute when Kambree Degon scored off another assist from McMullen, sending Northwest into halftime with a 2-1 advantage. Warner Pacific came out of the break with renewed energy and continued to push for the equalizer throughout the second half. Neither side was able to find the back of the net over the final 45 minutes, however, allowing Northwest's one-goal advantage to hold through the final whistle.

Despite the result, the Knights held the advantage in several offensive categories. Warner Pacific outshot Northwest 17-14 overall and put 12 shots on goal compared to nine for the Eagles. Both sides played a disciplined match, combining for just eight fouls with no cautions or ejections issued.

Kasia Lopez led the Warner Pacific attack with a team-high six shots, including four on goal. Tercek added five shots with three on target while scoring the Knights' lone goal. Thornton provided a spark off the bench, putting both of her shots on goal while also recording the assist on Tercek's goal.

In goal, Evelyn Montiel Silva played the full 90 minutes for Warner Pacific, recording seven saves on nine Northwest shots on target. Following the match, Warner Pacific head coach Greg Pfleger praised his team's performance and expressed confidence in how the Knights will respond moving forward.

"The score today didn't go our way, but the team played well and I know they'll work hard and be ready for next week's games," Pfleger said.
