Milwaukie, Ore.| Warner Pacific Knights Baseball finished and took the series today against Bushnell University. The Beacons took game three 12-2, and the Knights won game four in dramatic fashion 2-1.
Game Three
This game was at zeros for the first half with both starters going at it. It wasn't until the fifth where the Beacons would open the game up by putting up four runs. The Beacons after that were not finished and broke this game open, scoring seven runs on multiple hits, including a three-run double in the sixth. The Knights would respond and load up the bases and were able to cash in with two runs. However, those two runs weren't enough, and the Beacons built a 12-2 lead, winning the game in the seventh due to the mercy rule.
Offensively, the Knights were quiet in this contest only securing five hits but only struck out five times. Conner Hale would collect two hits leading the way for the Knights. On the mound,
Jaxon Hamada would get the start in this one pitching five innings while giving up four on eight strikeouts.
Payton Smith would pitch the final two and would get damaged allowing eight runs.
Game four
This contest featured one of the best pitching duels of the season with DJ Kauahi going seven innings of one run ball for the Beacons and
Mason Deverna going the complete nine innings of one run ball for the Knights. The third was a big inning for both teams with Bushnell scoring a run and the Knights responding with a run of their own. The deciding run of this game was scored in the bottom of the ninth with two outs.
Ezra Vice, who only had four plate appearances prior to the day, pinch hit and slammed a hard grounder the opposite way down the left field line.
Donny Tober, who had pinched hit the at-bat prior, scored all the way from first making winners of the Knights. This win secured the Knights their first four-game conference series win in the New Era of Knights Baseball.
The offense was held to seven hits with two key hits coming from pitch hitters in the ninth inning.
Donny Tober would get it going first getting on base and the second pinch hit coming from
Ezra Vice for the walk off. To tie the game in third, it was
Mason Deverna getting an RBI scoring Conner Hale. Hale once again got two hits.
Mason Deverna on the mound went the complete nine innings giving up just four hits and an earned run. Deverna recorded 12 strikeouts along the way as well.
Next Up
The Knights have finished their home portion of their schedule and will now finish their season with their next two series being on the road starting next weekend at Corban University. Game one will be this Friday at Roto Rooter Field at 2pm with game two following around 5pm.
