PORTLAND, Ore. – In a clash between two teams fighting for a playoff spot, Northwest Christian outlasted Warner Pacific in a five-set thriller tonight at C.C. Perry Gym. The scores were 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 19-25, 19-17.
Both squads now sit at 6-6 in Cascade Conference play and are tied for the sixth and final playoff berth. NCU improved to 13-9 overall, while WPC fell to 12-8.
The match featured 10 lead changes, and the score was tied 32 different times throughout the five set classic. The result also gave the visiting Beacons a little revenge for an earlier season loss to the Knights, which also went to five sets.
The night was capped off by the exciting final set, as each team fought off a pair of match points to prolong the action. Warner Pacific led 17-16 in the deciding frame, only to see the Beacons finish out the contest with a Tami Brown kill, a WPC error, and a match-winning block from Chandler Gabrio and Maren Mansfield.
NCU was led by the 19 kills and 20 digs from Tami Brown, while libero Dana McGowan had 30 digs.
Devan Belshe led all players with 21 kills for Warner Pacific.
Rylie Engelson added 17 kills, 23 assists, and 13 digs.
Nicole Lisoski swung for eight kills versus just one error.
