Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. –
Rylie Engelson hit for a match high 12 kills to lead Warner Pacific past Corban in straight sets tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.
The victory puts the Knights temporarily at 5th place in the Cascade Conference standings at 7-6, 13-8 overall. The visiting Warriors fell to 3-16 overall and 1-12 in CCC play. The win also gives Warner Pacific their most wins in a season since 2007 when the Knights finished that year 13-11.
Set one was close early on, as three straight errors from WPC gave Corban a 9-8 lead. The Knights slowly pulled away from there with solid kills and benefitted from three Warrior service errors to win 25-17.
The Knights marched out to an 11-4 lead in set two, and though Corban sliced the lead down to four on several occasions they were not able to close the gap. Kills from Engelson and
Kristina Naff sealed the 25-19 win for WPC.
Corban came out with a purpose in the third set and rattled off four straight points to start the frame. The Knights battled back to take the lead at 10-9 and with the score tied at 13-13, went on a 4-0 run and cruised to a 25-17 win to close out the match.
Devan Belshe and
Mikaela Lisoski added nine kills for Warner Pacific, while
Marchelle Bostic touched up 28 assists.
Corban was led by Chandra Teague who swung for 11 kills and had a team high 12 digs. Katherine Salness added 24 assists.
