Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech keeps pace in the Cascade Conference standings with a 3-0 victory over Warner Pacific at David Douglas High School today.
With the result the Owls improve to 3-1 in CCC action and 5-5 overall, while the host Knights drop to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in league matches.
It was Warner Pacific that started game on the attack, pressing forward in the first 20 minutes of play for four shots and earning a corner kick. In the 30th minute against the run of play, A.J. Castle gathered a headed ball across the box and shot from six yards to put OIT ahead 1-0.
Towards the end of the first period,
Anna Blakeslee and
Roxana Gomez each had clear looks at goal for the Knights but could not find the target.
In the second half, Melanie Johnson doubled the OIT lead in the 59th minute by gaining possession at the top of the box and firing low to the far post.
Warner Pacific pressed forward in search of a goal and ended outshooting the Owls 16-10 on the night, but instead felt how cruel the game of soccer can be. The official awarded Oregon Tech a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, which Hayley Smith calmly converted and provided the final margin of 3-0.
The Knights will embark on a four-game road trip starting with Eastern Oregon on October 12, while OIT will host Northwest Christian on the same day.
