LA GRANDE, Ore. - NAIA #4 Eastern Oregon picked up their 14th straight win to start the season with a 61-59 win over #13 ranked Warner Pacific in Cascade Conference play tonight.
Eastern (14-0, 2-0 CCC) led by as much as 16 in the first half and went into half time up 38-28. Both teams shot fairly well from the field in the first half. The Mountaineers shot 45% (15-33) to Warner Pacific's 44% (12-27).
In the second half Warner Pacific (8-3, 1-1 CCC) would tie the game at 54 with 5:11 left in the game. After Coltun Tarr drianed a three pointer, Warner Pacific owned a 2 point lead with 36 seconds left in the game. EOU responded thanks to Kalvin Johansen, who converted a 3 point play to put Eastern up one with 21 seconds left. On the ensuing possession the Knights turned the ball over and were forced to foul. Anthony Brown stepped to the line where he would hit 1-of-2 giving Eastern a two point lead to close the game, 61-59.
The Mountaineers' Jason Mumm led all scorers with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Brown finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Warner Pacific was led by
Coletun Tarr with 18 points.
Stephen Harris and
Doug Thomas finished 17 and 13 points respectively.
