WP Grinds Out Conference Win Versus Concordia

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ryan Parks scored a career high 20 points including six three pointers to help Warner Pacific to a 69-59 win over rival Concordia tonight at Bart Valentine Court.

The result moves the NAIA #14 Knights to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in Cascade Conference play. The Cavaliers fall to 3-6 and 0-3.

Parks wasn't the only Knight firing from distance. The team shot 39 times from beyond the arc – making 14, as WP tried to solve the Concordia zone defense from long range. Neither team found much success scoring the ball – each squad managed only 32 percent accuracy from the floor.

The game looked to be a rout in the early action. Warner Pacific built a 22-6 lead with 8:31 showing on the clock in the first half, as the visiting Cavaliers struggled on the offensive end of the floor. CU clawed back into the game however, and cut the margin to 28-21 on an Adam Herman dunk inside. The teams traded baskets the rest of the period and WPC enjoyed a 34-27 lead at the break.

Josh Black drained a trey and Stephen Harris hit a pair from the free throw line in the opening minute of the second half to quickly push the Knight lead to 12, but CU stormed back and took the lead at 47-46 on a three pointer from Willie Ligon. WPC reclaimed the lead at the 11:16 mark on a Harris layup and did not trail again, though the game stayed close until the final minute. Coletun Tarr kept the Cavs at arm's length with a breakaway score and two free throws in the waning moments, and the Knights were relieved to take the ten point victory.

In addition to Park's career night, Harris tossed in 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Josh Black added nine points and eight assists.

Adam Herman bruised inside for a game high 23 points and 16 rebounds for the Cavaliers. Ligon finished with 15 points including four three-point goals.
