NU Defeats Knights in Three

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific dropped their seventh straight match in a 3-0 (27-29, 21-25, 21-25) decision to Northwest University tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.

The visiting Eagles (7-15, 3-9 CCC) used their size advantage at the net to score 11 total blocks and force WP into 26 hitting errors.

The outcome might have been different if the host Knights (4-19, 1-12 CCC) had put away one of their three set points in the opening frame. With Warner Pacific trailing 16-11, Marchelle Bostic served the Knights to seven straight points to take control. After the teams traded points down the stretch, the Knights served for set point three times. WPC could not find the winning point however, and gifted the set to Northwest with three consecutive errors. NU was relieved to escape with a 29-27 win.

Warner Pacific sprinted out to a 6-1 lead in the early action of set two, but NU slowly crept back into contention. A service error from NU put the Knights ahead 21-20, but the Eagles closed out the set with five straight points including a pair of kills from Hannah Hanson.

Northwest got off to the fast start in set three and built a 14-7 advantage. WP fought back to tie the set at 21-21, but again gave up a late surge and NU claimed the set with four consecutive points.

Hanson led Northwest with 10 kills without an error, while Rae Anne Hastings added nine kills. Leia Roy was solid on the back line, contributing a match high 23 digs.

Warner Pacific was led by 11 kills from Julia Toscano, and a season high 10 kills from Brittney Bevens.
