EOU in Three Over Warner Pacific

Box Score

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Taylor Stewart and Stefani Sorensen led the No. 12 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers to a sweep of Warner Pacific College on Saturday evening. The Mountaineers took the three sets, 25-21, 25-11, 25-19.

In a match that was delayed 84 minutes from its original start time due to transportation problems the Knights of Warner Pacific came out and challenged the No. 12 Mountaineers. EOU (23-3, 13-1 CCC) took an early 6-2 lead but the Knights answered right back to score the next five points to take an 7-6 lead.

With Warner Pacific (4-21, 1-14 CCC) ahead, 9-7, it was the Mountaineers turn to go on a run. EOU scored the next six points to take a, 13-9, lead over Warner Pacific. The set of runs continued and with a, 22-21, lead EOU scored the next three points to take set one, 25-21.

EOU started the second set out on by scoring the first seven points of the set and 10 of the first twelve points to take an early 10-2 lead. Eastern Oregon continued to put the pressure on Warner Pacific and the Mountaineers extended its lead to 11, 19-8, after an attack error by Julia Toscano. Warner Pacific could not come back and EOU took set two, 25-11.

Early in set three the Knights and Mountaineers were locked in a close battle. EOU jumped out to an early, 3-1, lead but Warner Pacific kept it close and tied the game at four.

After it was tied at four, the Mountaineers slowly began to pull away. EOU used small runs to build a seven point lead, 14-7. EOU continued to slowly stretch the lead and with the Mountaineers ahead, 18-12, Eastern Oregon scored the next four points to take a 10 point lead, 22-12.

However, the Knights had fight left in them and started battling back. After Warner Pacific scored three straight points to trim the lead to, 22-15, EOU scored the next two points. With EOU having match point, the Knights scored four straight points to trim EOU's lead to 24-19. However, that would be as close as the Knights would get as a Bobbi Sumpter kill gave EOU the set, 25-19, and a three game sweep of the Knights.

EOU returns to action next Friday night when they travel to Southern Oregon to face the Raiders. Warner Pacific returns to the court on Friday when they travel to Concordia. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
