Knights Fall to Yotes in CCC Opener

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - College of Idaho scored three goals in the first period and held off a late charge from Warner Pacific to earn a 3-2 win in Portland tonight.

The host Knights (1-3, 0-1 CCC) got on the board first and were on the front foot in the opening minutes. Roxana Gomez headed in a long free kick from Hannah Millhollen in the fifth minute to give WP the early advantage.

College of Idaho (3-5, 1-0 CCC) struck back in the 13th minute to change the momentum of the game. Camas Curran slotted home a crossing pass from Jamiece Yizar to put the game back on level terms.

The Yotes took the lead just six minutes later as Curran again found the net after collecting her own deflection while dribbling through the box and finishing to the left of WP keeper Allie Holterman.

The third goal came by way of a penalty kick in the 35th minute. Brianna Blair converted the try with a shot just under the reach of Holterman, who had guessed correctly on the play but could not put a hand to the ball.

After the break, Warner Pacific was aggressive in pressing forward and found space to send six shots toward goal, but only one was on target. That particular shot found the back of the net off a well taken free kick from Hannah Millhollen in the 57th minute. The senior tried for goal from 20 yards out and placed the ball just over the reach of Yote goalkeeper Melin Joseph-Holmes.

The C of I defense held strong for the rest of the half, turning aside all attempts from the Knights to find the equalizer.

Joseph-Holmes was not called on to make any saves in the victory, while Holterman made two saves in the losing effort.

COMING UP: Warner Pacific will host Eastern Oregon on Saturday, while College of Idaho will visit Concordia on the same day.
