Knights Stopped in Four Sets by #11 EOU

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific managed to take a set from Eastern Oregon, but in the end the #11 Mountaineers earned their 12th straight victory with a 3-1 decision (25-13, 25-14, 16-25, 25-11) tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.

EOU (18-2, 8-0 CCC) handled the Knights with little trouble in sets one and two. The Mounties were especially efficient in the opening frame as they hit for a .542 attack percentage and put up four blocks at the net. The second set was nearly a carbon copy of the first, with Casey Loper swinging for four kills without an error and EOU as a team serving over three aces. 

The host Knights (4-14, 1-7 CCC) stunned EOU in the third set by cutting down on mistakes and forcing the Mountaineers into six hitting errors. Mikaela Lisoski served over a pair of aces and the EOU passers as a whole were ineffective during the frame. Julia Toscano pounded out four kills without an error to help the Knight cause.

The highly ranked Mounties recovered their game in the fourth set and quickly jumped out to an 8-1 advantage. EOU's lead reached as much as 12 points (17-5) before the Knights rallied briefly to draw within 20-9. The Mounties closed the door and finished out the set and match with a 5-2 run. Kassaundra Tuma scored five of her six total kills in the deciding set.

EOU's Casey Loper finished the match with 16 kills versus just one error, and added three service aces. Stefani Sorenson contributed 10 kills, while Karly Stack had 25 assists.

Warner Pacific was led by Julia Toscano with 10 kills, while Nicole Lisoski added five kills without an error. Kristina Naff played big at the net with one solo block and three block assists.

COMING UP: Warner Pacific will host College of Idaho tomorrow night, while Eastern Oregon heads to #20 Concordia for showdown of top 25 teams. Both matches start at 7pm.
