CU Defeats Knights in Rivalry Clash

PORTLAND, Ore. - Concordia defeated cross-town rival Warner Pacific 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-17) in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Friday night.

Concordia (19-6, 12-4 CCC) never trailed in the first two sets en route to a commanding 2-0 lead. With kills from three different players spurring a 10-to-5 run, Concordia broke open the first, eventually snaring a 20-11 lead following a Warner Pacific (4-22, 1-15 CCC) attacking error.

Forcing five attacking errors, the Knights rallied to cut the deficit to two points (23-21) only for the Cavs to close out the set with back-to-back points.

Concordia claimed a 5-1 lead out of the gate in the second and would go on to extend the lead to 12 points on Briana Hogan kill before settling for the nine-point win.

Playing ever through the first 28 points, the Knights grabbed several leads in the third set, but never more than a two-point advantage that came on a Kristina Naff kill for a 10-8 advantage.

The Cavs tied the set at 11-11 and took a three-point lead on a 6-2 run. The two teams met again at 14-14, the 10th tie of the set, before four late kills by Jackie Stein helped Concordia finish off the Knights, 25-17.

Overall, Concordia outhit the Knights .310 to .081, including a decisive .458 to .094 advantage in the third set.

WPC's Julia Toscano led the court with 12 kills on 33 swings. Stein hit .348 for the Cavs and was followed by seven kills from Mariah Raudsepp and five from Brenna Huwe.

Concordia will return to action on Nov. 8 when it hosts Oregon Tech and again on Nov. 9 when the Cavs welcome Southern Oregon for Senior Night. Warner Pacific will play the opposite schedule with OIT facing the Knights on Friday.
