Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Behind 10 service aces, Southern Oregon swept past Warner Pacific tonight at C.C. Perry Gym 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-10).
The host Knights (4-23, 1-16 CCC) had trouble with serve reception for the duration of the match, allowing the Raider hitters to attack after numerous free ball returns. Warner Pacific served over five aces of their own, but could not overcome the lack of consistent chances for kills. "It was a night where all of our girls had trouble passing the ball," said coach
Nels Norquist. "A team like SOU will punish you for giving them free chances to swing at you."
SOU (16-8, 13-4 CCC) swung for 41 kills versus just six errors on the night, good for a season best .461 attack percentage. Emma Gasman led with a match high 13 kills. Paulla Pinheiro added 10 kills, while Lauren McGowne had 35 assists.
Julia Toscano paced Warner Pacific with seven kills, while
Kristina Naff added six kills without an error.
Marchelle Bostic touched up 17 assists, and has a chance to become the all-time leader at WPC in assists in the final match of the season versus Oregon Tech tomorrow night. 28 assists will push Bostic past Rebekah Patton (2002-03) atop the career list.Â
