PORTLAND, Ore. – 14th ranked Warner Pacific overcame a slow start to sprint past Evergreen 78-59 tonight at
Bart Valentine Court.
The Knights (19-6, 10-3 CCC) used a 23-0 run that spanned both halves to build a comfortable lead. The burst was needed as the visiting Geoducks has the upper hand early.
Evergreen's defense frustrated WPC shooters in the opening minutes, and after a long three pointer from Travis Wagner the Geoducks (2-20, 1-13 CCC) enjoyed a 16-9 lead. The Knights slowly closed the gap and took a 25-24 lead on a
Doug Thomas jump shot with 4:13 left to play in the first period. That basket started the run for WPC which would send the Knights into the break with a 40-24 lead.
The run continued for Warner Pacific in the second half with three straight buckets before Elzie Dickens scored inside to end the drought for Evergreen. The advantage hovered around 20 points for the rest of the contest which allowed the Knights to cruise to the Cascade Conference victory.
Stephen Harris scored 17 points to lead WP, which included a 7 of 7 effort from the free throw line.
Marcus Moore and
Ryan Parks added 15 points each.
Evergreen was led by Frankie Johnson with 19 points, while Cody Peters added 12 points and eight rebounds.
