Knights Lock Down Win Over NU

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific used a stingy defense to hold Northwest to their lowest scoring output of the season and claim a 68-57 win over the Eagles tonight at Bart Valentine Court.

The Knights (11-9, 5-3 CCC) forced 17 turnovers and held NU to 41 percent shooting to pull away in the second half. Northwest also put forth a solid defensive effort and limited WP to 41 percent shooting also, but put the Knights at the free throw line 28 times where the host team converted 20.

The first half was a back and forth battle where the lead changed hands three times. The largest lead was a five point Warner Pacific advantage (21-16) with 6:27 remaining, but a pair of free throws from NU's Michael Greene in the closing seconds made the score 31-29 in favor of WPC at halftime.

The game remained close through much of the second period, with the Knights holding a slim lead for the first nine minutes. Northwest used a 7-0 run capped by a Ryan McIntosh steal and dunk to claim a 46-42 lead and the momentum at the 11:07 mark.

Warner Pacific responded with a 8-0 run including three straight baskets from Doug Thomas to regain the lead. The gap reached as many as 13 down the stretch thanks to sturdy defense and steady free throw shooting by the Knights.

Thomas dropped in 21 points to lead Warner Pacific as the junior's superb season continues. Sean Gaines added 13 points, and Josh Black passed for a game high eight assists.

NU was led by Tommy Jordan, who hit a trio of three pointers on the way to 12 points. C.J. Carter and Brett Skogstad added 10 points each.

COMING UP: Warner Pacific will try to add to their four game winning streak tomorrow night versus Evergreen starting at 7:30 pm.
