Knights Suffer Lopsided Defeat

PORTLAND, Ore.--The scheduled rain only appeared briefly, but Warner Pacific College was caught in a downpour of a different kind as the Knights fell 7-0 to Concordia University on Saturday afternoon at Tuominen Yard.

A sluggish first half yielded a 1-0 advantage for Concordia (7-4-0, 6-2-0 CCC) as Timur Zhividze successfully corralled an Eli Gaynor thrown in at the 11:08 mark and chipped a shot over the Warner Pacific (4-5-3, 3-4-1 CCC) goalkeeper from 16 yards out.

Twelve minutes into the second half, the Cavaliers doubled its lead as CU's Anthony Sanchez was tackled inside the 18-yard box, drawing a yellow card and a penalty kick for the Cavaliers that Sam Carmichael converted at the 57:07 mark.

Less than two minutes later, Cody Guthrie made it 3-0 contest on a header off a free kick from Tyler Hoiem.

Starting with an own goal by the WPC defense in the 76th minute, Concordia placed four more balls into the back of the net for the final score.

The Cavaliers finished with a 19-7 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. WPC created the first three corner kicks, all in first half but ended the day outnumbered 6-5 on corner chances.
