Knights Ease Past Portland Bible

PORTLAND, Ore. – The post-Thanksgiving sluggishness could have been costly for Warner Pacific, but the Knights avoided Black Friday in a 73-61 win over Portland Bible tonight.

The Basics

Score: Warner Pacific 73, Portland Bible 61
 Records: WPC (7-2), PBC (1-6)
Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
The Short Story: The Knights had to use a late game surge to get past visiting Portland Bible. WP got out a fast start and jumped to a 18-10 lead, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 33-32 score at halftime. The second half was close and the game was up for grabs until The Knights broke a 47-47 tie on layup from Michael Hall and would not trail again.

How it Happened

• Doug Thomas came out firing and scored the Knights first 11 points of the game.
• The Wildcats battled back from a deficit that reached as many 11, tying the game at 29-29.
• PBC took the lead for the first time on two free throws from Mozeek Waggener with .02 seconds left in the half.
• The lead would switch hands three times as the second period unfolded.
With a putback at 10:25 to play Michael Hall gave the Knights the advantage for good, and his dunk four minutes later put WP ahead 57-50.
• Coletun Tarr gave the home team their largest lead over the pesky Wildcats, scoring a layup to make the score 73-59 with under 30 seconds to play.

Notable

• Doug Thomas led all scorers with 25 points.
• The Knight bench outscored PBC reserves 29-6.
• Miles Waggener worked inside for 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead Portland Bible.
