#13 Westmont Upends Knight Women

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific battled a very strong and highly ranked Westmont squad but fell short tonight at Bart Valentine Court, 77-63

The Basics

Score: Westmont 77, Warner Pacific 63
 Records: WC (2-0), WPC (1-4)
Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
The Short Story: The Knights suffered through a rough first half of shooting which allowed the visiting Warriors to post a 19 point halftime advantage. Westmont scored at a 52 percent clip in the first 20 minutes compared to just 28 percent for WPC. Warner Pacific recovered to outscore Westmont by five in the second period but the margin was too much to overcome.

How it Happened

• After the Knights scored the opening basket, Westmont scored eight straight to take the lead and would not trail again.
• Megan Tullis hit a pair of free throws at the 4:30 mark to make the score 25-18, but the Warriors closed the half on a 19-5 run to build a 41-25 lead at the break.
• WPC slowly chipped away at the Warrior lead in the second half, and drew as close as 53-45 after a Kasara Brandenburg free throw.
• Westmont withstood the charge and pushed their lead back up to 20 points (67-47) with 6:18 to play.
• The margin closed to 14 with 1:32 on the clock as Kyeli Hendrix hit one of her trio of three pointers, but the Warriors responded with back-to-back baskets to salt away the win.

Notable

• Lisa Chiem led the Knights with 12 points - a career high.
