WP Men Claim Wins over Whitman, Walla Walla

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Warner Pacific men's basketball returned to non-conference action last weekend, booking wins over Whitman College and Walla Walla University.

The Basics - vs. Whitman

 Score: Warner Pacific 83, Whitman 71
 Records: WPC (10-2, 2-0 CCC), Whitman (4-3)
 Location: Sherwood Athletics Center, Walla Walla, Wash.
 The Short Story: The Warner Pacific men opened their trip to Walla Walla, Wash. with a 83-71 win over a quality Whitman College squad. Thew host Missionaries used high pressure to jump out to a 16-6 lead over the first eight minutes. WPC settled down at that point and began to make Whitman pay for their full court defense, eventually taking a 39-34 lead into halftime. Whitman closed within two points at the 11:38 mark of the second half, but Doug Thomas hit three pointers on consecutive possessions to put the game firmly in hand. The Knight defense was solid all night, holding the home team to 31% shooting. On the other hand, the Knights hit 51% of their field goal attempts which made up for 23 turnovers committed.

Notable

• Thomas posted his first double-double of the season (20 points, 11 rebounds).
• Laron Daniels and Coletun Tarr added 17 points each.

 Score: Warner Pacific 77, Walla Walla 43
 Records: WPC (11-2, 2-0 CCC), Walla Walla (0-13)
 Location: College Place, Wash.
 The Short Story: Jumping out to a 10-0 lead, Warner Pacific took control early and never relented in a 77-43 win over future CCC foe Walla Walla University on Sunday afternoon. The host Wolves never broke through WP's smothering zone defense, shooting just 27 percent (15 of 55) for the game. The Knights also forced WWU into 24 turnovers. Doug Thomas again paced WP with 27 points.

• Ryan Parks came off the bench to score 24 points including a 7 of 14 effort from behind the three point line.
