Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Corban snapped a 13 game losing streak thanks to a 70-66 victory over Warner Pacific tonight in Cascade Conference men's basketball action.
The visiting Warriors (7-19, 3-14 CCC) used a packed in defense to force Warner Pacific into long range shooting, which paid off as the Knights could muster just an 8 of 36 effort from the three point line. Warner Pacific (14-14, 8-8 CCC) saw their hopes to host a CCC playoff game take a blow with the loss.Â
The Knights were the dominant team in the first half, holding Corban to just eight field goals which included just 3 of 15 shooting from behind the arc. On the other hand, WPC scored at a 51 percent clip (16 of 31) in the opening 20 minutes on the way to a 35-23 lead at the break.
After
Doug Thomas scored on a putback with 14:03 on the clock, WPC enjoyed their largest lead of the game (48-38) and looked in control. The game turned at that point and the second period became a reversal of fortune for both teams. Corban eventually hit 9 of 14 shots from long range after intermission. Caleb Herzberg did the heavy lifting with 20 points in the period including 4 makes from the three point line. Slowly chipping away at the WP lead, a 9-0 run by the Warriors starting at the 10:03 mark put Corban in the lead for good.
The Knights made it interesting down the stretch as
Ryan Parks nailed a pair of three pointers, the second of which drew WPC within a single basket at 68-66 with 35 seconds to play. Toby Roth made two free throws on the ensuing Warrior possession, however, to provide the final margin.
Doug Thomas was the top Knight scorer with 17 points, while
Michael Hall grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
Herzberg finished with a game high 28 points for Corban. Jordan Carter was also in double figures with 14.
