Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific upset #14 Southern Oregon tonight, 69-54, at
Bart Valentine Court behind a stingy defense and a career scoring night from
Marcus Moore.
Moore dropped in a WPC career high 25 points on 8 of 11 shooting, and splashed a pair or crucial three pointers in the closing moments to help the Knights to the win.
Southern Oregon (22-7, 11-6 CCC) missed 13 of their first 14 shots, setting the tone for a mere 25.4-percent showing from the floor and 3-for-34 shooting from 3-point range against the Knights' zone defense.
In contrast, Warner Pacific (15-14, 9-8 CCC) connected on 46 percent of their field goal attempts including a 13 of 20 effort in the second half.Â
The teams battled close in the first period, with WPC claiming a slim 26-24 lead at halftime. The Knights managed to maintain a small lead as the second half ticked away, but couldn't shake the Raiders completely thanks to SOU's commanding rebounding advantage that eventually reached 50 to 27.
WP's lead finally reached double digits at 56-46 thanks to Moore's final trey of the game, which sparked a 11-0 run that pushed the gap out to 18 points.Â
David Sturner and Jordan West led SOU with 13 points, with Sturner adding a game high 11 rebounds.
In addition to Moore's 25,
Doug Thomas scored 10 points which moved him into #10 on the Warner Pacific career scoring list. His 1217 career points moves him ahead of Alan Novitsky (1980-84) and trailing Ed Mazyck (1970-74).
COMING UP: Warner Pacific will host Oregon Tech tomorrow night at 7:30 pm with still an outside chance to host a first round playoff game. WPC will hope for a win versus OIT and some help in other CCC games on Saturday.
