• The Short Story: Warner Pacific held leads in all three sets, but it was Evergreen that came away with a CCC victory tonight in Portland. The margin of victory for the Geoducks was narrow in each frame, but the visitors made enough plays to escape with a win. The difference came down to Evergreen's slight advantage in attacking efficiency (.294 to .255), and seven service aces compared to four for the Knights.
How It Happened• WP used a 7-0 run behind tough serving from
Cara Wonsley in set one to take a 12-6 lead.
• The momentum didn't last as Evergreen scored eight straight points later in the set to take a three point lead (21-18).
• Kills from Ivy Eakes and Molly King gave the opening frame to the Geoducks.
• The Knights started strong again in set two, and built a 7-2 lead in the early action thanks to
Devan Belshe's quality serving.
• The Greeners stormed back once again, this time with six straight winners including a pair of aces from Brandee Victorino.
• The rest of set two was close, and WP was within one point (22-23) before a Nicole Deihl kill gave Evergreen the win.
• Set three was another tight battle, and Warner Pacific looked to extend the match after
Kelsey Merritt gave the home side a 22-19 lead.
• Evergreen closed out the match however with a trio of kills from Victorino and two errors from the Knights.
