Second Half Woes Continue for WP in Loss to Beacons

PORTLAND, Ore. – The season-long struggles in the second half continued for the Warner Pacific women in a 71-61 loss to Northwest Christian tonight in CCC play.

The Basics

Score: Northwest Christian 71, Warner Pacific 61
 Records: NCU (6-9, 2-5 CCC), WPC (8-12, 1-6 CCC)
Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
The Short Story: Warner Pacific is following a blueprint, but the instructions need to change as the Knights suffered another second half swoon in a home loss to Northwest Christian. The visiting Beacons turned a two point lead with nine minutes to play into a 10 point victory and sent WPC to their fifth straight defeat. Four NCU players reached double figures led by Andrea Gloss with 16 points. Lindsay Loe kept WPC in the game with 22 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the floor.

How it Happened

• The Knights were hot in the opening moments of the game and opened a 15-6 lead after two free throws from Lorena Torres.
• The lead held for much of the first period, but the Beacons slowly fought back and eventually tied the game at 26-26 going into halftime.
• Kyeli Hendryx opened the second half with a three pointer for WP, and the Knights led 35-34 after four minutes ticked off the scoreboard.
• Melyssa Weber tossed in a pair of free throws on the next possession and the Beacons would not surrender the lead again.
• WPC trailed by just two points (45-43) after Brett Larson connected on a layin at the 9:11 mark, but the Beacons responded with seven straight points to take control.
• The Knights cut the gap to five points on two occasions but could not get the needed stops defensively down the stretch.

Notable

• Loe's 22 points was a season high.
