Jones, Tarr Power WP Over Corban

PORTLAND, Ore. – Earl Jones scored a season high 20 points and Coletun Tarr added 16 points for Warner Pacific in a home Cascade Conference win over Corban, 69-51, tonight in Portland.

The Basics

Score: Warner Pacific 69, Corban 511
 Records: WPC (14-4, 4-2 CCC), CRB (9-6, 2-4 CCC)
Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
The Short Story: Warner Pacific kept pace in the CCC standings with a convincing win over Corban tonight at home. The Knights showcased their stingy zone defense once again, holding Corban to 51 points and 23 percent shooting from behind the three point line. Though the final score was a comfortable margin for WP, the visiting Warriors came to play and fought back from an early deficit to take a 22-21 lead after a Cody Crowe three pointer. WP finished the first half on a 9-0 run however, and would not trail again. The Knights added to their advantage in the second half, taking a double digit lead (47-36) on a Laron Daniels layup and cruising to the win.

How it Happened

• Warner Pacific set the tone early, and built a 21-15 lead after a Keaton Bankofier trey.
• A 7-0 run from the visitors however gave Corban their only lead of the game at 22-21.
• After the score was tied at 27-27, Coletun Tarr splashed a three pointer with 2:44 remaining in the first half to restore order and give WPC the lead for good.
• The Knights held the Warriors scoreless for the final three minutes of the period, and enjoyed a 36-27 lead at the break.
Corban made an effort to rally in the early moments of the second half, cutting the margin down to six points (41-35) after layups from Cyrus Ward and Toby Roth.
• After a quick time out to right the ship, WPC tightened their grip on the game with a 8-1 run - including six points from Tarr.
• Earl Jones made his presence felt as the second half wore on, scoring 17 of his 20 points during the 20 minutes after halftime.

Notable

• Tarr was perfect from the field until his last shot, finishing 7 of 8 from the floor.
• Both teams struggled from the free throw line - Corban was 7 of 14 while the Knights were 2 of 8.
