Knights Take Advantage in Second Half to Top SOU

ASHLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific used a an early red card and sending off by an SOU player to cruise to 4-1 win over the Raiders in Ashland.

The card was issued in the 14th minute, and Duran Hererra's ensuing free kick from 30 yards was redirected near the goal by Mario Guizar into the back of the net. Diego Buenrostro knocked in an equalizer for the Raiders early in the second half, but the Knights poured it on with three goals in the final 38 minutes for the Cascade Conference victory.

WPC, which improved to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCC, followed Buenrostro's goal – which was assisted by Dakota Scott's corner kick in the 50th minute – with the go-ahead score less than three minutes later, an unassisted deep line drive by Hererra that traveled nearly 30 yards.

In the 78th minute, Cesar Esquivel took Joey Lutostanski's short lead pass from the right side of the box and delivered a sliding goal to make it 3-1. In the 84th, Esquivel's deflected shot (for which he was credited with an assist) went to Julian Hassel for an uncontested goal from short range.

The first-ever contest between SOU and WPC was testy throughout, featuring six yellow cards and two reds – the second going to an inactive player on SOU's bench. Warner Pacific was also whistled for 16 fouls, and SOU eight.

SOU had a 17-13 edge in total shots, including 11 in the second half, despite being shorthanded. Kinghts keeper Joe White made four saves.
