Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 at CCC Championships

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Warner Pacific men's soccer season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Great Falls at the Cascade Conference Championship Tournament.

The Basics

• Score: Great Falls 3, Warner Pacific 0
• Records: WPC (10-8-1), UGF (13-5)
• Location: Willamalane Complex, Springfield, Ore.
• The Short Story: The Knights conceded an early goal and chased the remainder of the game versus Great Falls today in a quarterfinal playoff matchup in Springfield. Outshooting the Argos 18-16 for the match, WPC searched in vain for the elusive goal and just four shots were on target. UGF was more accurate, forcing Knight keeper Joe White into five saves while putting three chances into the net. Warner Pacific ended their campaign with 10 wins, while Great Falls advanced to the semifinal round.

How it Happened

• Jon-Eric Krans put UGF on the board in the 7th minute, firing home after a pass from Renan Zampieri.
• The Knights pressed forward in an attempt to level the score, registering 10 shots in the first half.
• UGF doubled their lead however, as Ian Ooko scored in the 40th minute.
• Ooko added another goal seven minutes into the second half, allowing the Argos to see out the playoff victory while focusing on preserving the shutout.
• Warner Pacific tested Argo keeper Marc Girones three times late in the game, but the freshman was up to the challenge.

Quotes

• "We are disappointed with the result that is for sure," said coach Chris Thoms. "We had several opportunities to score, but came up empty. Give credit to Great Falls, they are a tough opponent and they took their chances. I am proud of the guys and the effort of the team all year. 10 wins overall and eight wins in our conference is a good marker for our program and we'll look to improve on that next season."
