WP Women Get Season Opening Win

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific earned a season opening win, defeating Cal Maritime 71-48 at the Arizona Christian Classic in Phoenix. 

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 71, Cal Maritime 48 
• Records: WPC (1-0), CSM (0-5)
• Location: Fultz Memorial Gym, Phoenix, Ariz.
• The Short Story: After battling three NCAA Div. I teams in exhibition games, Warner Pacific was glad to take the court in a contest that counted. The Knights suffered through a rough first half and committed 33 turnovers for the game, but held Cal Maritime to 22.6 percent shooting for and owned the rebounding battle 51-36.  

How it Happened

• Both teams struggled to find their legs in the first half. WPC turned the ball over 20 times and made just 9 of 26 attempts from the field.
• Cal Maritime was not much better, hitting just 9 of 31 field goal tries and giving the ball away 14 times.
• WP flipped a switch in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Keelhaulers 23-13.

• Lindsay Loe scored a bucket with 6:46 to play in the quarter which gave the Knights the lead (29-27) for good. Loe finished a perfect 5 for 5 shooting in the second half.  
• The Knights continued to pull away in the 4th quarter, and led by as many as 25 after Kasara Brandenburg drained a shot from behind the arc to make the score 66-41.
• Meanwhile, the Keelhaulers could not solve the WP defense and converted just five field goals after halftime.
• Loe ended the day with 20 points to lead all players, while Brett Larson came off the bench to score eight points and grab a game high 13 rebounds.
