WP Men Drop Close Game at Saint Martin's

LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's University defeated Warner Pacific 72-69 on Tuesday night, coming back from a 10 point deficit to steal the win at home.

The Knights went ahead early in the first half and had its biggest lead of 10 with 6:41 left in the first half. Earl Jones scored 14 points in the period, including a 4 of 5 effort from the three point line which helped WP shoot 51 percent from the floor. Warner Pacific went into the half with a five-point lead at 43-38.

In the second half, SMU tied the game at 48 with 16:09 left in the game and took the lead after a three by Tyler Copp. SMU kept the lead and went ahead by six with 11:56 left in the game.

The Knights chipped away at the lead and the game was tied for the final time at 66 with 3:11 left in the game. SMU went ahead by two after Baerlocher tipped the ball in. WPC came within one after a free throw shots but two free throw shots by Cole Preston kept SMU with the 70-67 lead with 1:57 left in the game.

Warner Pacific would be fouled on the other end of the floor and came within one but after a few missed shots on both sides of the floor Copp was fouled with eight second left in the game and made both shots and the Saints took the win.

SMU shot 46.3 percent from the floor and 76.5 percent from the free throw line. Warner Pacific shot 44.4 percent for the game and had just seven turnovers.
