PORTLAND, Ore. - A rough shooting night sent Warner Pacific to their first loss of the 2015-16 season, dropping a non-conference game to Whitman College 62-47 tonight at Bart Valentine Court.

The Short Story: Warner Pacific suffered through a cold shooting first half, and was unable to make up an 11-point halftime deficit in a loss to the visiting Missionaries. On the other hand, Whitman scored at a 57 percent clip for the game, and hit 5 of 12 tries from the three point line. The Knights found their scoring touch in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Whitman 19-12 and getting as close as two points. The Missionaries withstood the charge and cranked up their defense, holding WP to eight 4th quarter points and pulling away for the road victory.
How it Happened• Whitman jumped ahead 10-2 in the early action. Casey Poe scored six points for the Missionaries to set the tone.
• The Knights got five points from
Taylor Howlett in the 1st quarter, but could only muster six as a team and found themselves down 12-6 at the end of the period.
• WPC scored the first four points of the 2nd quarter, but continued to struggle from the floor. A 5-0 run to end the half gave Whtman their largest lead at 31-20.

Kendra Preuninger hit a trio of three pointers in the 3rd quarter, helping the home team get on track offensively. Her trey with under a minute remaining made the score 43-39.
• In the fourth quarter,
Brett Larson cashed in on a chance in the paint to draw the Knights within two points, but the Knights went cold for the remainder of the game.
• The Missionaries scored 16 straight points in the 4th quarter to pull away and go on the the 15-point win.
