Knight Men Heat Up, Burn VIU 113-89

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific torched the nets at 62 percent field goal shooting during a 113-89 win over Vancouver Island in a non-conference matchup in Portland tonight.

The Short Story 

Making his Warner Pacific debut, De'Jon Bowman scored 19 points on 9 of 11 shooting to help the Knights to a comfortable win over Vancouver Island. The Knights scored at a season best clip, making 44 of their 77 field goal attempts.The second half was particularly efficient for WPC, hitting 21 of 29 shots a team. The visiting Mariners were in the groove offensively also, connecting on 46 percent of their attempts. A dry spell in the second half allowed WP to pull away however, and the Knights improved to 7-4 on the year with the result.

How it Happened
.
• Franky Johnson started the game with a thunderous dunk off the opening tip, but VIU responded with a four-point play from John Thompson who was fouled on his shot from distance. 
• A few moments later, Taylor Young drained a trey to give WP a 7-6 lead and the Knights would not trail again.
• The points piled up for both teams in the first half as neither squad put up much resistance on the defensive end.
• After Chris Parker bought VIU within one point (24-23) with a three pointer, the Knights scored nine straight to take a 10 point lead. Earl Jones, Adam Westfall, and Collin Malcolm all canned treys during the run.
• The Mariners did not stop playing, and after Josh Ross buried a shot from the half court line at the halftime buzzer the visitors trailed by just six points (60-54)  
• WPC scored the first eight points of the second half to provide a cushion, and the lead stayed above 10 points for the remainder of the game.
• Thompson hit again from behind the arc to cut the WP advantage down to 13 points with 7:40 on the clock, but Malcolm responded on the other end with an alley-oop throwdown to check the threat.
• Finding numerous open looks in the second half, Warner Pacific missed just eight shots and led by as many as 27 points.
