KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Janessa White dominated with a match-high 21 kills, leading Warner Pacific College to a 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19) victory over Oregon Tech in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech, in their first loss at home this season, fell to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference standings. WPC evened their mark to 4-4 and improved to 3-2 in CCC play.
Oregon Tech will host Multnomah University Saturday, while the Knights face Southern Oregon University in Ashland.
The Owls raced to a 5-0 lead, eventually moving up 10-3 in the opening set, only to see WPC chip away to tie set 1 at 16-all. Tech would hold a 22-19 lead, however, a 6-1 run by the visitors left the Owls down 1-0 after falling by a 25-23 final.
Tech looked to get back on track, tying the match at 1-1. The Owls fell behind early, 0-3, but after scoring five of the next six points, behind three Kelsey Sampson kills and a spike by Bailey Nelson, the home team held a 10-7 edge.
Six-straight by WPC, however, put the Owls in a 10-13 deficit, with the Knights continuing to lead 21-20 late in set 2. A block from Mikayla Rubey and Alexa Burdett sparked a 4-0 run, as a pair of Nelson kills, and one by Sampson, led to a 25-22 win to tie it at 1-1.
After leading 11-6 and 13-8 in set 3, the momentum turned against the Owls, as WPC capitalized on three Tech hitting errors to close to within a point, 13-12.
WPC's
Janessa White took over from there, adding five kills to her match-high, closing the set and giviing the Knights a 2-1 advantage in the match.
The Owls once again looked good from the start of set 4, leading 5-2, but WPC used a pair of
Nicole Lisoski kills, and one by
Alyssa Neal, to take a lead, 7-5, they would not relinquish.
WPC continued to feed the ball to White, who closed out the match with four more kills in the set, giving the Knights the set and match, 25-19.
Kelsey Sampson finished with a double-double for the Owls after recording 11 kills and 12 digs. Bailey Nelson notched 10 kills, followed by Kristin DePaoli with nine. Waverly Green and Tori Porter combined for 37 assists with Bella Foss coming up with a team-high 25 digs.
Janessa White's 21 kills was followed by
Alyssa Neal with eight and
Nicole Lisoski with seven.
Brandy Velasquez finished with a match-high 29 digs and
Kealia Rosa a match-high 44 assists in the win for the Knights.
