WP Women Bounce Back with Win Over Yotes

PORTLAND, Ore. - Taylor Howlett scored a season high 18 points to spark Warner Pacific to a 81-62 win over College of Idaho, stopping the Knight losing streak at two games.

The Short Story

Slow starts have been a problem lately for the Warner Pacific women's basketball team, and the early action Saturday versus College of Idaho looked to continue the trend. The visiting Coyotes started fast, scoring the first five points and building a 10 point advantage (21-11). Over the final two minutes of the 1st quarter, WP scored four points to cut the lead back down to six and begin a comeback. The offense began to click for the home team who eventually sprinted into the lead and went into halftime ahead 38-33. WP continued to score at a high rate in the second half, and forged a 15 point lead during the decisive 3rd quarter. The Knights then cruised to the win thanks to 55 percent overall shooting in the second half.

How it Happened

• It was the Jaycin Tini show at the beginning of the game as the C of I player scored the first seven points for the Yotes to put C of I ahead 7-2.
• Ashgleigh Blalock put in a layup to give the Yotes their largest lead of the game (21-11), but WP got a free throw from Brett Larson and a trey from Kendra Preuninger to lift the spirits of home team heading into the 2nd quarter.
• Two more three pointers from Preuninger helped the Knights gain the lead, with her 2nd make in the quarter gave WP the lead for keeps at 25-23 with 6:59 on the clock.
• WP outscored the Yotes 23-12 in the period to grab control, with Kasara Brandenburg quietly scoring eight points before halftime.
• Taylor Howlett came alive in the second half, pouring in 14 points including 10 during the 3rd quarter to send WP to a commanding 62-47 lead heading into the final frame.
• The closest C of I would get during the 4th quarter was 13 points on three occasions, and six points from Hannah Mocaby helped WPC secure the win.
